Pastor’s Corner for April 2018

Pastor’s Corner for April 2018

This month I would like you to consider the tried and proven “Old Paths”. In Jeremiah 6:16, God says “Stand ye in the ways, (the pathways) and ask for the old paths (true teachings), where is the good way, and walk therein,…” Jesus gives us advice in Matthew 7:13-14. “Enter ye in at the strait (truth, righteous) gate … and narrow (correct) is the way, which leadeth unto life, (salvation) …” Continue and read verses 16 and 20, where Jesus says that you can know who to listen to or follow by this test, “Ye shall know them by their fruits.”

In the Old Testament the word “truth” is used 115 times and in the New Testament it is used 109 times. This is important in our spiritual growth. (See Leviticus 13:22, Proverbs 16:31.) “Thou shalt rise up before the hoary (gray) head … if it be found in the way of righteousness.” We should learn from the older ministers, some passed away, but others still living. What did they sing about, preach and teach about, and write about. We can learn a lot about their Biblical standards and truths that God revealed to them. My family and I have attended at least 12 ministers’ meetings, 14 national conferences, 5 Canadian district conferences and 24 American district conferences. All this has shaped who I am today. I would highly recommend that you find audio-video material, written material, and courses taught by the older ministers. There are at least four “Bible Home Instructors” of various eras; there was a Bible Correspondence Course of the ‘50’s and now a revised, up-dated version, called “The Steps to Truth”.

We know the Word of God, the Bible, does not change. The Bible teaches God has not changed. The history, prophecy and the plan of salvation have not changed. God tells us in the Bible that He does not change. Jesus, the Son of God, is the same yesterday, today and forever. The Westside Church of God (Seventh Day), Inc., has done a lot of work to preserve the old documents of the past. The old teachings and old Biblical standard once delivered unto the saints. Remember, you can still read and learn from the sermons and letters of the apostles and learn directly from Jesus by reading the Bible daily. See Acts 5:42 and Acts 17:11.
