Pastor’s Corner for December 2017

This month we come to realize that summer and fall are passed and winter is at hand. We need to be ready to meet the season. Our spiritual life must be ready too. There will soon be a day of reckoning when everyone will stand before the Judge of our life. America used to be called a righteous nation, but now 85 to 90 percent of American people are not saved and are not true followers of Jesus. Most people are ignorant of what is truth and righteousness as found in the Holy Bible. Seven times in the New Testament God had writers tell of God’s will for us, that He does not want us to be ignorant. No one starts life as righteous. Romans 3:10 states “There is none righteous, no not one.” We all need the righteousness of God which is in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). We need to “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou (we) shalt be saved...” (Acts 16:31). No one should be ignorant as to how short the time is before the end comes and judgment of all people arrives. Jesus told us in Matthew 24:42 and 44 the end will come very suddenly and we must be ready at all times. In 2 Peter 3:10, God tells a similar truth and adds in verse 17 to beware lest we fall from our stedfastness. In verse 18, He tells us to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are not to be ignorant but to study the Scriptures for our own benefit and also so we can teach others of God’s salvation plan. This can be referred to as working for the salvation of family members, friends and the lost living around us. Can you hear God calling us to action in Romans 13:11-14?

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
