Pastor's Corner - Dec 2016

We must preserve the Bible teaching for our children and grandchildren or they may not find the old path. Jeremiah 6:16 tells us what Jehovah wants.

“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, (the dividing of the paths) and see, (consider) and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls...”

We need to actively search and ask for the old Biblical ways to serve our God. What were the teachings? 2 Peter 1:21 tells us about the Old Testament men searching for the truths in God’s Word. The holy men were moved by the Holy Spirit to write and preserve the Bible for us. Since this verse is in the New Testament it would extend this action to include the Apostles and early Disciples, making sure we would know and understand the truths that they searched for. See Luke 1:1-4 where Luke searched for eye witnesses and a perfect understanding before he wrote his book. Then it is for us to take the truth into our future. We must reach back to the old paths that were before our time and preserve faithful minister’s studies and God-given truths. We need to know their conclusions, behaviors and how they traveled their path of life. We need to clear the trail and old paths so that others after us will not fail. As we read about the old faithful men and women of the past we need to carry their good and acceptable ways of serving God into the future. We need to teach the next generation to hold the faith and preserve truths of the Bible. Paul taught Timothy and Titus, and then stated “I have kept the faith”. (2 Timothy 4:7-8) Peter also left a challenge for us in his first and second letters stating we should always be ready to meet our Maker, having past on the truths we have learned. (See 2 Peter 3:1-2)

That said, we must look back at some older men of faith and learn from them. Do we know the history of K. H. Freeman, O. T. Whitten, S. J. Kauer, John Keisz, K. C. Walker, Israel Haegar and a dozen others? They wrote three different versions of “The Bible Home Instructor”, “The Search Light Bible Correspondence Course”, and more. They started Spring Vale Academy (http://springvale.us) and Midwest Bible College for training ministers (1940s to 1970s) and its successors and wrote books about Bible prophecy. In the recent years, Pastor Wesley Walker wrote “Answers To Your Bible Questions” and Pastor Robert Coulter wrote “The Journey, A History Of The Church of God (Seventh Day)”. In the latter book, dozens of men and women of faith are named along with their ways and paths of serving God. We need to keep information from as far back in history as we can and pass it on to our children, grandchildren and many others. 2 Timothy 2:1-2 tells us to pass it on to faithful people who shall be able to teach others also. My wife and I have collected and digitized many writings of the older ministers and are willing to share those writings that we have. Just ask for a list via email or phone us. Also, “Giving And Sharing” (http://giveshare.org), operated by Earl Lewis, has many books and articles free of charge or at a low cost just for the asking.

We who know the truth that sets us free must pass it on to others. This is a great responsibility and privilege not to be taken lightly.
